How it works

Insurance & Liability

VALET drivers are professionally vetted chauffeurs who operate vehicles owned by our clients. Because we don't own or insure the vehicles our drivers drive, here's exactly how coverage works — in plain English, before you book.

Your vehicle's insurance is primary.

Your personal or commercial auto policy is the first line of coverage in the event of an accident, damage, or third-party claim while a VALET driver is behind the wheel.

VALET carries non-owned auto liability as a secondary layer.

Our commercial non-owned and hired auto liability coverage may respond as excess or contingent coverage — for example, if your policy's limits are exceeded, or under specific circumstances outlined in our Client Service Agreement.

Confirm your policy covers a professional driver.

Many personal auto policies exclude “for-hire” or “livery” use. We strongly recommend a quick call to your insurance provider to confirm that your policy will respond while a professional chauffeur operates your vehicle. If it won’t, ask about a commercial or hired-driver endorsement before your first booking.

Full terms are in the Client Service Agreement.

The complete allocation of risk, deductibles, subrogation, and claims-handling steps lives in the Client Service Agreement, which we provide at booking. The binding legal version also appears in our Terms of Service, Section 8a.

Frequently asked

+Who's liable if something happens to my car?
Your own auto policy is primary — it responds first to any damage or third-party claim while a VALET driver operates your vehicle. VALET’s non-owned auto liability coverage sits as a secondary layer and may respond above your policy’s limits or in the specific situations described in the Client Service Agreement. Physical damage to your vehicle should be tendered first to your collision or comprehensive coverage.
+Do I need to tell my insurer that a professional driver will drive my car?
Yes — please confirm with your provider that your policy covers use by a professional or hired driver. Many personal auto policies exclude “for-hire” or livery use, and you don’t want to discover a gap after a claim.
+Are VALET drivers licensed and vetted?
Every driver we dispatch passes a background check, an MVR (motor vehicle record) review, and our defensive-driving and executive-protection vetting. Documentation is on file before their first assignment.
+What if my policy won't cover a hired driver?
Ask your insurer about a commercial, business-use, or hired-driver endorsement. We’re happy to walk through the requirements with you before you book.
